Oh. Oh, hello there.
So, I’ve spent my idle moments deciding how to start this thing. Why do you give a shiz about me?
I don’t know.
So instead of explaining who I am. I thought I’d start with who I was…
I was the quiet kid. I didn’t sit at the back of class. I sat to the side, towards the middle. Front row—too prominent. Back row—um, hello cool kids had those spots staked out.
I was the kid who read through lunch every single day. I read a book a day. Sometimes more.
In fact, (Should I be embarrassed by this?) my middle school gave me a special “Library” award when I graduated. The librarian compared me to a chainsaw running through the shelves.
Whatever.
My nose was in a book every day because that is where my sanity lay. It lay there in worlds of dragons, princesses, magic, clever quips, regency England, orphans, geniuses. I slid into those worlds and found an escape I desperately needed.
And as each day passed, each time my peace of mind was preserved because of Harimad, Lessa, Alanna, or another lovely hero, I wanted to tell my own story.
I’m not 13 anymore. But I still read when I’m stressed. And I still want to tell my own story and hopefully give to another what Robin McKinley, Tamora Pierce, Anne McCaffery, JK Rowling, and the rest gave to me.
So, that’s why I’m here. I hope you’re here because you love stories as much as I do.
~Amanda
If your book is as well written as this first entry in your blog, it will be a huge it. I am really looking forward to get to know you better.

Wow! You just made my day. Putting myself out into the world like this is about as “not me” as it can be.
Amanda, I am so glad you are doing this! As you know I am terrible and keeping in touch via phone. I’m excited to be able to check in with you and see how things are going. I think about you often and hope you are doing well! Oh, and Emma drives me crazy, too 🙂
