Books and such

So, I’ve been off the radar for a while.  I had my foster care home study and then the flu.  Now I have a stupid cough.  *whine, whine, whine*

I’ve also been working on my book, yay-yeah, and the end is IN SIGHT.  That’s right people, it’s creeping every closer despite my genetic tendency to procrastinate.  But regardless, I’ve decided it’s time to write a blog post about books.  As you know, I LUUUUUURRRRRVVVVEEE books.  And I’ve been listening to these youtubers who talk about books.  And I thought, you know?  I’ve read some pretty good books this year, so I’m gonna write a blog post about my favorites that I read during the the first half of 2012, so here they are 1 for every month.

1)  If you’ve read this blog at all, you already know I love this book.  But regardless, Laini Taylor’s Daughter of Smoke and Bone.

I just love this book so much.  It has the feel of a fairy tale.  It’s original and feels different and new in my head.  I think that you should all read it.  Then you should read it again.

This book is my NUMBER 1 book of the year.  I expect though it may be dethroned by this one:

Yeah it’s the sequel.  It’s out this fall, so you should pre-order now.  That way you’ll get the best deal.  Anyhoo, can’t imagine another author actually dethroning Laini Taylor for me.  Oh except for maybe this one:

The next books that I’ve read so far and loved are pretty much tied in my heart.  There’s this one:

The Fault in our Stars by John Green

This book is clever and funny and heart-wrenching and just wonderful.  It feels like a tragic Juno.  You should read it.  Definitely.

And I loved, Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo

This one has a heroine that isn’t beautiful.  And the magic is fun.  And mostly, I just like it.  I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again.  I loved it.

The next book I loved despite myself.  If you liked Supernatural the TV show, you’d probably like it.  But not just that–I don’t like ghost stories.  I think you start out having been written into a box.  However, Kendare Blake wrote a freaking fantastic one anyhow.  I can not wait for the sequel.  Plus, best of the covers, yeah?

The sequel is out this year too!  Here it is with another flippin’ awesome cover:

The next book that I have loved loved this year was a surprise to me.  Why, oh why, did I not pre-order?  I was going to and never did.  Now the freaking first edition is worth almost a grand.  Damn it.  Despite that fact that I loved it–just so much–I love it just a shade less than those above:

This book was fun.  You know what was best?

Sort of anyhow, but I liked how the whole world is virtual but the most kickazz thing he does is in the flesh.  Love it!  Love how he saved the day by risking everything in real life.  Awesome!

And for my sixth book?  This one was a little harder for me to come up with.  I wanted to share a book a month, but the truth is 6 five star books, when I haven’t been reading as much, is kinda difficult.  But here it is:

Image

So this one is in doubt only cause I mighta read it at the end of last year.  I got it last year for my birthday, but I often sit on books before I get around to reading them.  Anyhow, 5 stars?  Yes!  Absolutely!  Honestly, one of the best books I’ve ever read.  It feels like Alice in Wonderland in my head with a good dash of Chronicles of Narnia.  Highly, highly recommended.

So there you have it 6 books for 2012.  We’ll see if they make a top 12 for this year by the end.  But my guess is it’ll be

JK Rowling

Laini Taylor

and then who knows?  There’s some exciting stuff coming out.  Books, gotta love them.  It’s possible my number one book will, in fact, be:

  1. Great suggestions. I can’t wait for your book to come out. Would ‘Daughter of Smoke and Bone’ be appropriate for Kiara? Or maybe ‘The Girl who circumnavigated Fairlyland’? She loves to read, but I sometimes find her going back to babyish books ’cause those are the ones who got her excited about reading in the first place.
Now that you are done with the home inspection, any idea how long before you might get kids?
And let me know if there is something you’ll need once they get here.

    1. Absolutely are Girl/Fairyland. Daughter of Smoke and Bone might be a bit old for her. Maybe double check with Kristin Morgan–she’s read it too. Way books does Kiara like? I’ll give you some ideas based off of her favorites.
