Curling into a book…

When times are hard for me, I curl up with a book.  And reading, so long a habit with me, is like sliding into the book itself, sliding into another world, sliding into an escape.

Which is just what I need when times are rough.  And the other day, I set aside my own writing (again!) and curled into not one but several books.  And it was like being transported back to my life pre-kids, pre-writing.  I finished in ONE day the end of A Christmas Carol, Tarzan of the Apes, and We Have Always Lived in the Castle.  Then, I read A Great and Terrible Beauty and The Thorn and the Blossom.

Before this sounds too amazing, be warned that We Have Always Lived in the Castle and The Thorn and the Blossom were both novellas.  And I was almost done with Tarzan of the Apes and A Christmas Carol.

That being said, I used to often read a book a day, sometimes more.  And I needed that refreshing that comes from diving into a new world and letting it overwhelm me.  Somehow that beautiful, magical process makes everything better.  Even when nothing has changed.

Man, I heart books.  Also, that kitty needs to come live with me.

ps  I have since picked up Vessel by Sarah Beth Durst.  I didn’t expect to love it.  So far I do…

  1. When times are rough for me, I curl up in front of the TV. It’s the most mind and heart numbing thing. Now, do you feel better about yourself?
