The To Be Read Experiment…

This whole To Be Read thing has been interesting.  I have jumped ship twice on my goal.  I was lured away by The 5th Wave and then picked up Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day.  Now I’m not done with my list yet, but I’ve been thinking how its been surprising that it wasn’t that hard to come back to that pile.

And as I look at my calender (I need to look since I generally have no idea what day it is),  I see that tomorrow is halfway through the month.  AND  I’ve read nearly all the print books on my list.  The audio books being slowed up by the super, super long The Last Chronicle of Barset.

The thing is during this experiment of mine, I also watched this youtube video.  In the video Ariel Bissett talks about her list of unread books and her decision to work through her backlog rather than continuing to buy large stacks of books she doesn’t have the time to finish.

Conscience, prick, prick, prick.

Damn it.

Alas and woe, it’s possible I considered making a book buying ban or something else nonsensical like that.  Even though Ariel didn’t list the reason I buy a book when I know I’m not going to have time to read for a little while: I want the hardcover, and they aren’t always available long term.  I grasped at my good reason.  I sort of rolled around in it, caressed it, loved it.

But it doesn’t really hold water.  What’s the point of owning a large library of books that I’ve never read?  That’s just stupid.

My stupid excuse aside, I’ve decide to make a new list of To Be Read.  It turns out when working through my back log, I made some excellent choices of what I *eventually* wanted to read.  Plus there’s the darn guilt torturing me.  Here’s my new list.  It includes the few I haven’t finished from my previous list.  I don’t have a time frame on this.  I figure it’ll take as long as it takes, but I’m shooting for the end of this month.

My life is going back to normal soon.  Assuming SmileyPants feels better.  That being the case, I’ll be back to writing instead of rocking my little angel and reading while she sleeps.  She’s a prima donna, so I have to rock her for a long while after she sleeps in order to be able to lay her down successfully.  The good news is that I *should* have time to write again soon.  It’s possible that in doing so I’ll actually finish writing my own book.  I think we’ve all learned by now not to hold your breath on that on though.
